Welcome!
This site is dedicated to greyhounds. Here you will find information about greyhounds, caring for greyhounds, and greyhound adoption. You won't find a lot of glitzy graphics. That goes against our philosophy. What you will find is good solid information and a few photographs. Enjoy!
Please Note
Grey-Save takes pride in our civic events. These events are enjoyable for us, but they also are a valuable tool for introducing our greyhounds to the general public. This is critically important in our effort to find new homes for these wonderful pets. Please consider joining us and supporting us at an information table or a parade if it is at all possible so that we can share the unique gift of a greyhound's love and devotion with more families. We need your help to make these events a success! Just donating a couple hours of your time once or twice a year can be a HUGE help.

Section added to Rainbow Bridge to honor members of Air Medical Transport Services
I have added a section to the Rainbow Bridge page to remember those who have lost their lives in the air medical transport service. I became interested in this topic after being involved in the search for a downed medical helicopter in our area. While these flights are accepted as an every day occurrence, few people recognize that despite stringent safety guidelines, these flight and medical crews still fly into conditions and areas that place their lives at risk. Few people also recognize how frequently these same flight and medical crews give their lives in the service of others. The addition of this section into the Rainbow Bridge page is to help us all to remember that these are not "routine" flights, and to recognize the sacrifices made by those who choose to fly. 01/07/07

Remember pets during disaster planning
Grey-Save encourages pet owners to have a disaster plan in place to care for their pets in the event your area is evacuated. Here in Erie we tend to feel safe and secure from the major disasters we see on television. We often fail to recognize the risk posed by the transportation of hazardous chemicals on our roadways and railways, an active earthquake zone in Ashtabula County and Lake Erie, the possibility of Tornados (The Albion Tornado was an F-4), the potential loss of power for weeks due to ice storms, or the Perry Nuclear Power Plant to our west. You may not have time to develop and implement a plan should a disaster occur. You may only have minutes to make decisions that will affect your family and pets before local communications systems fail. Having a plan in place in advance for your entire family including your pets is a sound idea. Please contact Alan at 814-825-7825 if you have questions or would like some guidance in this area. 08/14/04

Avian flu an issue for people and pets
This may seem to be off topic for a Greyhound Adoption website, but it does have the potential to affect the lives of both people and dogs alike. We recommend that you visit the following web sites to learn more about the Avian Flu and recommended guidelines for protecting yourself and your family should the disease make it to the continental United States. Northwestern Pennsylvania is on or very close to a migratory bird route.
At this time the disease remains primarily a bird issue, but those who work closely with or otherwise handle birds could become infected. Cats are susceptable to the disease through contact with birds. Any effect on the dog population is unknown at this time. Cut and paste to visit the following sites.
http://www.cdc.gov/flu/avian/index.html for general information about the Avian Flu.
http://www.pandemicflu.gov/ for detailed information about what to expect IF the disease mutates to human to human transmission, and what the resulting pandemic could mean to you. Provides realistic recommendations for preparations for a possible pandemic.
http://www.promedmail.org This site is a bit more technical, but is on the cutting edge. Here you will find the latest information updated multiple times daily.
